Balancing Borders and Ledgers – My Journey as a URA TAX AGENT

My name is Ssentumbwe Samson, a proud citizen of Uganda and an integral part of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). I serve my nation as both a Domestic Tax Agent and a Customs Declarant, roles that have shaped my career and instilled in me a deep commitment to service, compliance, and national development.

My Roots and Calling

I was born and raised in the heart of Uganda, a place defined by its vibrant culture, resilience, and sense of community. From a young age, I was drawn to fairness, structure, and systems—traits that would ultimately lead me into public service.

My journey began in 2010, when I officially joined URA as a Domestic Tax Agent. It was here that I found my passion for working closely with businesses and entrepreneurs, helping them understand and fulfill their tax obligations. My mission was clear: promote compliance, foster trust, and ensure transparency in Uganda’s tax system.

A Dual Role with Purpose

Embracing an additional role as a Customs Declarant deepened my understanding of international commerce. I now work at the intersection of domestic taxation and cross-border trade, ensuring businesses comply with customs regulations while facilitating global economic participation.

My dual role offers a unique perspective:

  • Domestic Taxation has taught me the importance of empowering local businesses and promoting economic resilience.

  • Customs Work has shown me the intricate dance of international trade, requiring precision, adaptability, and global thinking.

Together, these responsibilities underscore my dedication to Uganda’s development and the integrity of our revenue systems.

The Impact of My Work

Through the taxes we collect, I have seen real change—roads, schools, healthcare systems, and more. Every audit, advisory session, or customs declaration contributes to a better, stronger Uganda. I take pride in being a bridge between government policy and the people it serves.

Beyond the Office

Outside of my professional life, I am passionate about Bonds, Securities, and the Gold Trade. I also actively pursue continuous learning, particularly in International Trade and Taxation. These interests not only fuel my personal growth but also enhance my effectiveness as a public servant.

My Commitment

I believe that public service is more than a job—it is a calling. It is about community, integrity, and making a difference. As I continue this journey, I remain dedicated to delivering value, ensuring fairness, and building a better Uganda through transparent, compliant, and innovative tax and trade systems.
